My great grandfather bought a Waltham grandfather clock many years ago and I am going to assume ownership of it. The clock is in Arizona and I live in Rhode Island so I need to have the clock packed and shipped which will probably be fairly costly. How can I best assess the value of the clock as compared to the costs associated with moving it? The clock is a beautiful piece with two sets of chimes and it still keeps very good time.

Andy, Just returned a Waltham hall clock identical to the one on your site to running condition after having been in storage for sometime. It has a massive coil gong which is quite sonorous and has the no.7687 stamped into the rear plate. The owners know nothing about the clock (nor do I) Hoping you can date it from the number. I know that the NAWCC will not give values and suspect you might not either but hoped you might offer a ball park figure. Thanks, Dana Armour Mendon,Ma.

We were given a Waltham 31 day clock. I was able to purchase a key to wind it up with from a local clock. Then noticed it did not keep time correctly. I took it back to them and they taught me how to adjust the weight screw at the bottom of the pendulum/regulator. But, said it more than likle would never keep time. Because the pendulum was to short and the color did not match the clock color. A longer pendulum is needed to allow the screw weight to be dropped more. The lock runs 40 minutes fast. HELP!!! can this problem be solved? Please email me your response..

Hello M. Goodman,

9 tube hall clock belongs to a friend.  These clocks were made from 1902 - 1930.  9 tube movements had 2 variations on number of tunes played.  These movements are very high quality.

Hi: My wife and I have had a Waltham "31 Day Chime" wind-up clock for over twenty years. I have attached a JPG of it. It is about 12" wide X 24" high X 6" deep. There are two winding holes on the face, one on the right and one on the left. We keep the works wound with a key in the hole on the right by turning counter clockwise about 20 turns. It keeps great time. The problem we have had since we bought it (used) is the chime mechanism. I know it has one. However, it has never chimed in all the time we have had it. The winding hole on the left seems to be locked tight in a completely wound position. This is the way it was when we bought it. I can take the face off from the front using an eyeglass sized screw driver but then I do not know what I am looking at. Can you help me figure out why it won't chime? Thanks.

I looked at a customers banjo clock today and have some questions concerning the clock. It is not weight driven but the case has the metal shield at the bottom where the weight would have came down behind. The movement is a time and strike with a platform escapement. Looks to be mahogany and the throat glass is George Washington and the bottom tablet has a picture of a white house. The drop part of the case is gold leafed/guilded not sure which. The movement looks like was made for the clock but the other odd thing the F/S adjustment on the dial is opposite of what it should be. If you want it to run faster you move the lever toward the S not the F. I have never worked on a Waltham so my question is would the case have been made like the old weight driven even if a different movement was installed? What is the age of this clock. I know you cannot see it so I am hoping you can tell with the description I have given you. Thank you for your time. I like your site good job.

I have come into possession of my parents Waltham clock. It says it is a 31 day chime clock, it has a swinging pendulum, the casing measures 24"L x 12.5"W, and the clock dial measures about 8 inches across. I have the key. It has "Made in Korea" stamped on the back and says Waltham on the dial. I was wondering if you could tell me if there was any selling value in it? Please email me at the email address I supplied if you need a pic. Thanks

We have just acquired a 31- day Waltham Regulator Chime Clock. Once we set the clock, and wind the clock, it only runs for about 2 minutes and then quits. Any suggestions? We have no manual or directions for it.

Right now it doing the opposite. It just lost another 10 mins. What can we do to correct everything. Thank you. It is a beautiful clock. Georgie

Andy - thanks for putting this site together. My great grandfather used to work at the Waltham Clock Factory and upon his retirement was given a Willard 'banjo' clock that I now possess. I was just curious if you've amassed any information on those who used to work at the factory over the years. His name was William Stevens. Thanks again!

I bought a Waltham 9 tube Hall Clock in 1969 ( Like the picture on left) Papers from the priviate musem I bought it from certified it was sold to Samual Clemens and stood on the halfway landing of the spiral stair case of his house. Is there any way to check if one was sold to Huckle Finn ( book charceter name ) of Samual Clemens ? One time I called the muesem to check on it and all they wanted is for me to donate it to the musem and didn't send me any information if the paperwork was true.

Hi Andy: I'm a NAWCC member and my inquiry regards genealogical research. My grandmother worked for a "Smith family" in the Waltham area. I have inherited from her a highschool yearbook from about 1938 which she and a Horace Smith signed; in the same yearbook is Shaw B Smith. I subsequently read an article by you on Derbyshire lathes, and realized that these Smiths are the family she worked for. I would like to contact any of the living descendents by email if possible. Do you know any of them and could you provide email addresses? Gilbert M Wilcox

Hello, Purchased a Waltham 31-day chime clock (wall - Tempus Fugit) at an estate sale today. Found a very limited script of instructions online (was not running when we picked it up) and seems to run and chime. However the time/chime # are out of sync and chime sound is very "tinny". Instructions give some info on correcting these but not very clear for a layperson who learns better with visuals. Can you provide information? (Noticed other messages have asked similar questions and hope this is easily fixed.) Thank you.

I have one of the "Tempis Fugit" 31 day chime wall clocks. It was working perfectly for many years until recently. It runs for a little while then stops and I have to restart the pendulim. It will run for a little bit again and then stop. I tool it to the only clock repair near me and they wanted almost $350 to fix it, saying it needs a complete rebuild. Does this sound right and if not, any help on a fix? Thanks for any help as this was my mother's favorite clock and I want to keep it if possible.

My grandfather had a Waltham 8 day clock with second hand circle towards the bottom. It was for a car, boat or plan the back measures almost 3 inches across and the front flange measures 3 3/8 It is stainless steel with the winding mechanism at the top. It folds up after it is pulled from the dash. The face is black with white lettering. The face screws off after removing a very small set screw at the bottom. My guess is it was manufactured 1900-1940. It seems to work great. Any Idea of value. It makes a great paper weight, it is very heavy.
